Chounsai Tsunatoshi Katana, Jo Saku, 1855 NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon, with Koshirae
$12,500
Features:
A striking and refined collaboration from the 1st and 2nd generations of Chounsai Tsunatoshi. This work showcases the transition from the Shodai to the Nidai during the mid 1800’s while retaining the type of workmanship that defined them as leading Shinshinto swordsmiths. The sword features a masterful and powerful doranba, following the lineage from their teacher, Suishinshi Masahide.
The blade features a classic sugata. The nakago is ubu and signed Oite Efu Chounsai Tsunatoshi on the omote. It is then dated Ansei Ni Sai Go Gatsu Kichi Jitsu (May, 1855) and signed Chounsai Koretoshi on the ura. The jigane is a tight ko-itame hada. The hamon begins with a long sugu yakidashi that transitions to a large pattern doranba of turbulent waves. The doranba is punctuated by a deep nioi guchi of dense nie and inner activities. The hamon finishes in a thick maru boshi.
Along with high quality military gunto koshirae.
